Punto Mitts and Mittens

I'm so excited about my latest pattern release. Punto mitts and mittens were inspired by Affiknity's Punto hat and cowl patterns. I knit a Punto cowl last year in soft and squishy Malabrigo Worsted. I paired the highly variegated Plena with the soft blue grey of Polar Morn. I loved the finished product and so did my friend Jennifer. She loved it so much that I gave it to her.

Lately she has been hinting (not so subtly) that she would like a pair of fingerless gloves to match. I searched the Ravelry database for a pattern that would coordinate with her cowl, but didn't find anything I liked. I decided to wing it and put the Pinto stitch pattern into a pair of mitts. It took a couple of tries to figure out how to make the stitch pattern flow through the gusset. Overall I was pleased with the effort and it got lots of love on Ravelry. I decided to refine it further and write up the pattern.

My test knitters knit them in a beautiful rainbow of colors. When I turned the pattern over to my tech editor, she encouraged me to add a mitten option.  And since my fingers get so cold at the bus stop, it sounded like a great idea.
